Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman, striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high‐profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens. When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman, Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin, Carmine Falcone, and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler. As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.

Düster, brutal, Gotham. Diese Inszenierung des Batman zeigt einen gebrochenen Bruce Wayne, der fernab der bisherigen Interpretationen sein Leben tristet. Gotham ist schmutzig, korrupt und lebensunwirklich. Kein Glamour, keine verklärte Beschönigung der Mobster und ein ein wunderbar verkörperter Riddler, welcher im Hintergrund die Fäden spinnt und nicht nur monotone Rätsel hinterlässt. Der Film macht als Batman Fan einfach nur Spaß und man taucht in die Geschichte ein.

Ein Detektiv Noir Krimi. Es regnet unentwegt und es ist ständig finster. Guter Look. Mit Anleihen aus The Long Halloween und der Computerspiel Serie von Telltale. Pinguin mit extrem wenig Screen Time bleibt blass und die übliche Synchronstimme von Farrell passt nicht. Turturro als Falcone fehlbesetzt. Wright als Gordon und Kravitz als Selina Kyle überzeugen. Pattinson macht sein Zeug mit Luft nach oben. Der Riddler und sein Motiv sind lachhaft, die Arkham Szene macht Lust auf die Fortsetzung.

Ein düsteres Gotham, ein gebrochener Bruce und ein menschlicher Batman. Korruption ist hässlich. Endlich wieder back to the roots: weg vom Hollywood-Superhelden-Spektakel a lá Superman. Pattinson als Batman bringt einen wieder näher an seine Geschichte ran. Er ist und bleibt der angekratzte Waise. Nur der Riddler könnte mehr Tiefgang vertragen - als Gegenstück zu Bruce. Die Filmmusik ist in Ordnung, wäre mit HZ jedoch sehr viel tiefer. Dennoch freue ich mich sehr auf eine Fortsetzung.
