The perfect reboot of everyone’s favorite superhero. Matt Reeves has crafted a gritty noir driven film that emphasizes the character’s detective skills, and shows an imperfect vigilante wanting to bring a positive effect. Reeves expands Gotham’s underworld of corruption in a dark grim way that makes Batman evolve more into the hero he is meant to be, while struggling with his vulnerability of his past trauma. Robert Pattinson is extraordinary as both Batman & Bruce Wayne, he brings a nihilistic version of the character that demonstrates how broken he is. Pattinson’s post-Twilight career only showcases how brilliant he is, and this role is proof that he deserves to be the Dark Knight. Paul Dano’s Riddler is the most terrifying comic book villain that steals most of the entire movie, and Zoë Kravitz’s Catwoman is terrific and more grounded than we’ve seen her before. The rest of the cast are brilliant in every way such as Jeffrey Wright as Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin. The cinematography is amazing, and Michael Giacchino’s score is equally as iconic as the previous Batman scores. Matt Reeves is the real deal and he has made the best Batman movie since Nolan’s trilogy, I cannot wait for what he does next, and I’ve been waiting for a movie like this after the disaster and failure of the DCEU’s Batman. See it in IMAX.
