Tom is destined to follow in the footsteps of his father by gaining employment in the depraved and often violent world of real estate. A serendipitous meeting makes him believe that he could actually become a concert pianist. He prepares for the audition with the help of a Chinese pianist, and although she does not speak French, she and Tom learn to communicate through music.
