9/10 or rounded to 5 starts. It is very rare for a good comedy movie to score more than 6 or 7/10, this is usually because comedy is subjective and what is funny to one person is not to another. The big labowski is a comedy that takes no liberties, does not try to cater to a certain audience and does not resort to cheap laughs and fart jokes. It presents you with a well thought out story (in which nothing happens and there is no ending) fully flushed out characters, and cinematography which uses color, and symbolism to help develop the plot and characters even further. In other words i have never seen a comedy put this much attention into their characters, settings, and symbolism. I honestly think this is the best produced COMEDY I've ever seen, and proves a comedy doesn't have to be a a cash grab that only caters to one audience.I will say that a major Theme of this movie is de-masculinity which may be a theme most women may not understand. However if your a girl don't be turned off this movie yet, give it a chance, and see if you can take the themes from this movie to better understand the men in your life.

I'm a big Coen brothers fan and really gave this one the benefit of the doubt. Watched it again recently after having seen the original in the theater on its release. Now I have friends who go to Big Lebowski conventions, co-workers who have the bowling shirt, etc. I get the adulation. However, I found it a real chore to sit through. Ham fisted, obvious, even the vaunted Jeff Bridges performance seemed weak to me - _affected_. Definitely a few guffaws were had but in general this felt really dull to me.

No female I've ever shown this to has enjoyed it nearly as much as any Y chromosome. A ridiculous romp whose atmosphere belies its surprisingly twisting storyline. On the surface it is nothing more than a celebration of the lazy spirit in all of us, yet the film succeeds as a Seinfeld-ish study of the human condition. Or maybe it's just a fun movie.
