When four outsiders saw what the big banks, media and government refused to, the global collapse of the economy, they had an idea: The Big Short. Their bold investment leads them into the dark underbelly of modern banking where they must question everyone and everything. Based on the true story and best-selling book by Michael Lewis (The Blind Side, Moneyball), and directed by Adam Mckay (Anchorman, Step Brothers) The Big Short stars Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt.

I don't often write reviews but i felt compelled in this instance. Do not waste your time on this offbeat unfunny "black comedy" about opportunistic profiteering scum bags who earned a fortune while people were losing their homes during the housing market crash. Not a single person to route for in this truly epicly boring film.

This explains the insides of what non-banking people have yet to fully get. Watching it gave me a greater idea of the gravity of the recession and the selfishness on all sides. When it happened I thought the hedge funds were all absolute arseholes as they should have been trying to tell us what was going on instead of making money but this film paints it well with mixed motives, desires and goals of the players in that world. Steve Carell was the best performance.

This is an intelligent balance between entertainment and education. Very good acting, cast great, method very effective. Unusual approach to a wall street film! Hats off to Steve Carrel, nice performance!
