Set against the antebellum South, THE BIRTH OF A NATION follows Nat Turner (Nate Parker), a literate slave and preacher, whose financially strained owner, Samuel Turner (Armie Hammer), accepts an offer to use Nat’s preaching to subdue unruly slaves. As he witnesses countless atrocities - against himself and his fellow slaves - Nat orchestrates an uprising in the hopes of leading his people to freedom.

Wow! One has to question why this wasn't a box office smash. I feel very upset I didn't see this in the cinema. This was the most powerful film I have ever seen in my life. Imagine Django except real and without Tarantino signature all over it. Imagine 12 years a slave without the draining fatigue of continuous suffering and pain. Imagine the best slavery set movie ever

Absolutely brilliant film, would definitely recommend watching. A missing piece of history that the everyone should know about, remember and make sure this never happens again.
