On a surface, this seems like a whacky family film (and to an extent, it is). However, there is a nice exploration of reconciliation and human struggle against the Universe (a simplified version of Camus' concept of "absurd man") that gives a much more full-fledged meaning to this film. Combined with genuinely hilarious comedy (from fireworks accompanied by Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture to an exploitation of the "Dun Dun DUUUN" cliche), this film is both laugh-out-loud funny and emotional enough to make a grown man cry.

I thought that with all the stars attached to this film and being from Dreamworks this would be good but it wasn't. My daughter watched it a few times and I kept thinking it would get better or maybe I missed something the previous times, but it never did. I'm glad I only rented it but wish I'd gotten it from redbox. It's not worth more than $1.50. Save your $.

It's about a caveman family, that has a cave that whenever there,s danger they get in it and slide a rock across the entry their safe. Their neighbors all got crushed and passed away. They are the last caveman family. At night they are not supposed to go outside. I'm not going to tell you about the rest.
