The tension mounts as the methodical preparations of the Jackal are paralleled with the efforts of the police to uncover the plot, which gives the story non-stop, edge-of-your-seat suspense.

Frederick Forsyth's groundbreaking novel is perfectly adapted for the screen. Edward Fox shines as the titular assassin; A cold, ruthless, mission-focused professional who is juxtaposed superbly by Michael Lonsdale as the dour, haggered French detective charged with the almost impossible task of tracking a nameless, faceless assassin. An engrossing cat and mouse game right up until the very end.

Riveting story line. Although set in 73 its as much a time piece as well as a great story. I read the book and saw the movie when it fist came out but on reviewing it was better than before and has withstood the passing of time remarkable.
