In a grim and secluded castle, the followers of medieval vampire Baroness Daniella Varga hold obscene occult rituals in preparation of her physical re-birth. When guests arrive, they are put to physical and sexual tests to determine who will be the vessel for the new and unholy reign of terror. The Devil's Plaything (the broadcast version of Vampire Ecstasy) is from noted director Joseph Sarno, one of the few sexploitation auteurs to receive critical attention. In recent years his work has been the subject of retrospectives at the New York Underground Film Festival, the Torino Film Festival in Turin, Italy, the Cinémathèque française in Paris, and the British Film Institute. Sarno body of work was noted by The New York Times in his April 10, 2010 obituary.
