Novelist William Peter Blatty based his best-seller on the last known Catholic-sanctioned exorcism in the United States. Blatty transformed the little boy in the 1949 incident into a little girl named Regan, played by 14-year-old Linda Blair. Suddenly prone to fits and bizarre behavior, Regan proves quite a handful for her actress-mother, Chris MacNeil (played by Ellen Burstyn, although Blatty reportedly based the character on his next-door neighbor Shirley MacLaine). When Regan gets completely out of hand, Chris calls in young priest Father Karras (Jason Miller), who becomes convinced that the girl is possessed by the Devil and that they must call in an exorcist: namely, Father Merrin (Max von Sydow). His foe proves to be no run-of-the-mill demon, and both the priest and the girl suffer numerous horrors during their struggles. The Exorcist received a theatrical rerelease in 2000, in a special edition that added 11 minutes of footage trimmed from the film's original release and digitally enhanced Chris Newman's Oscar-winning sound work.

Calificaciones y opiniones

Una de las mejores peliculas de terror de todos los tiempos. Da miedo tanto a los religiosos (por el tema de la posesion), y a los no creyentes con las escenas grotescas con la niña. La pelicula da mucho mal rollo. A nivel tecnico y de cinematografia es impecable. Las actuacciones y los personajes son excelentes. La trama es simple, pero inmejorable y muy realista. El ritmo es lento pero constante (no aburre). Y el final muy potente. Todo un referente del cine de terror y del cine en general.

Desde la actuación de linda blair como regan, desde los otros actores. Todos fueron buenisismos en sus papeles correspondientes y se encarnaron en ellos. Buen Plot de historia. Para el tiempo en que se filmó (osea en aquellos años). Esta película es una bella obra de arte del terror. Muy perturbadora en imágenes, no me imagino en aquellos tiempos.. La aconsejo, junto al Conjuro. Sin duda lo mejor del terror.

I'm a total horror fanatic! I saw this movie when I was 3 years old and it stayed with me through the years, it's so good now that I have it to watch anytime I want. So, yes, I do recommend you buy this. I think only kids from the eighties and seventies will understand what a classic this is!!
