Controversial and popular from the moment it opened, The Exorcist endures as a defining classic that influenced movies afterward and still shocks and haunts today. The frightening and realistic tale of an innocent girl inhabited by a terrifying entity, her mother's frantic resolve to save her and two priests -- one doubt-ridden, the other a rock of faith -- joined in battling ultimate evil always leaves viewers breathless. In the Extended Director's Cut, director William Friedkin and producer/screenwriter William Peter Blatty integrated over 10 minutes of footage deleted before the film's 1973 release. They include moments deepening the impact of a first-rate ensemble's remarkable performances and reinforcing the film's grip on its audience. A phenomenon of its time and for all time, The Exorcist astonishes and unsettles like no other movie. MPAA Rating: R Rated R for strong language and disturbing images. The Exorcist (1973) is a purely beautiful film at the best of on-screen moments and even more so in this extended version. Within this film, yes there is horror and very shocking and disturbing moments, yet there is also so much Hope to be seen. Everyone who sees this film finds their own interpretation of on-screen events. Director William Friedkin and original source novelist William Peter Blatty, together with all of this film's exemplary actresses and actors, created a wonderful modern day parable of in film director Friedkin's apt words: "the mystery of faith". An ultimately uplifting masterpiece, beautifully lensed by cinematographer Owen Roizman.

Always loved this! Even from a kid.. though it used to scare the hell out of me then, not so much that I'm really into that stuff. Only thing that still gets me is watching it alone late at night and when the camera closes in on Regan's face... *shivers*
