Riddled with undertones of misogyny and sexism. Very disappointing. All the main female characters are unsympathetic to each other, naive, selfish, catty, and incapable of taking care of themselves. The men are portrayed as the strong ones who keep things in order, whether it be the smart male therapist, the protective ex-husband (who we later discover is the villain), or even the controlling husband of the nanny whose jealousy the movie seems justify by the infidelity of his wife. As in many movies, the woman who openly expresses her sexual desires and enjoys sex is portrayed as lacking any morals, and ultimately is punished. The ending attempts to redeem the movie's sexist undertones when the protagonist claims she and the other women share an eternal bond after the truth comes out and the evil ex-husband is defeated. But you never see the female characters develop into anything other than the shallow and subservient roles they play throughout the movie. Overall, this was a disappointing movie.

Great directing and actors. Spoiler alert. Emily Blunts character wasn't crazy or mentally ill. She wanted to have a baby and IVF wasn't working and nothing was helping... so she turned to alcohol and started drinking. Every guy that is posting judgement and negative comments, let me guess you definitely know what that's like to try and get pregnant (physically) and you just can't! The ex husband, being the dick he was, that was in everyone's pants, he made it about her, painting her as crazy and inadequate and incompetent. Sounds reallly supportive and helpful right? Because you know every husband in those situations have the manuals and the know how. Except her ex husband took it further and pushed her to the brink of mentally ill because the more she drank the more she blacked out and the more he told Rachel things that happened....that she got violent, that she smashed things, and broke stuff. Unless you know what it's like to have blackouts, the fear that suffocates you, or what it's like to have panic attacks and anxiety, and depression, then you will continue to miss the point.

This movie isn't for everyone like anything else...and it may be harsh for some females to watch. Its a brutal display of a narcissistic sociopath & his traumatized victims. The story plays out mostly through his ex wife. Its a cautionary tale as well.
