A small fishing village must procure a local doctor to secure a lucrative business contract. When unlikely candidate and big city doctor Paul Lewis (Taylor Kitsch) lands in their lap for a trial residence, the townsfolk rally together to charm him into staying. As the doctor's time in the village winds to a close, acting mayor Murray French (Brendan Gleeson) has no choice but to pull out all the stops and begin The Grand Seduction.

Graderings en resensies

I was a little disappointed. Well acted, beautiful scenery, and decent pace, but really the main characters just weren't very likeable. A welfare cheat, a weak willed, unethical bank manager, a backwards old fart, a corrupt oil industry executive (nothing new in that), an unethical border guard, and a cocaine using surgeon. What's not to like? The jokes. They were as straight up as the characters.

Stands better as a tale of a town in decline than a coming of age tale. You're never really sure that anyone has come of age.

This movie is weirdly funny from start to finish. If you give it a chance it'll have you howling.
