The movie is about 2 merchants looking for gun powder and stumble their ways in the middle of a 2000 year war between the east and mythical beast. The beasts attack every 60 years and of course, the merchant (Matt Damon) is expected to save everyone. The director is well known for beautiful visual movie-making, and delivered fully. Actions were cool, however, there is just so many things don't make sense. 1. Apart from cool effect, why would you have soldiers doing bungee jump as part of the defence? How is that even efficient? 2. The original general was killed by a trap, but why would a commander in chief act as a scout? 3. 2000 years and didn't bother to look for a permanent solution until the arrival of Matt Damon. 4. There is no sentry post or defence anywhere between the front line and the capital? 5. They have beacon and all sort of war machinaries, but no fast communication between capital and the front line... Overall, a feast for the eyes, but don't use your brain.

There is very little to recommend this film. What's surprising is a film this action-packed managed to be quite so dull and plodding. If you can't guess the plot in the first twenty minutes, it's because you've fallen asleep. I could say more, but I think I've wasted enough time on this unspectacular little film.

An unhappy merger of East and West cinematography and story telling. The attempt is appreciated but feels forced and characters are written without depth. A more historic film, centred around the great wall would have been more welcome.
