Gman 1693
The Trailer was amazing, and probably one of the best trailers I've ever seen for a movie. It looked so interesting, but when I watched it, it was not as good as I thought it was going to be when I saw the Trailer. Really not a good movie, sorry Mark you're a mind blowing actor, just shouldn't have chosen this role. You still played it very well though lol...
BHAKTI BROPHY
(THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS!) M. Night Shyamalan is a great director and story teller. Like many auteurs (Hitchcock, Truffaut, etc.) he has hits and misses. This was almost a miss. The only saving grace for me was Betty Buckley's performance 2/3 of the way through the film. She anchored the film in some sort of reality...I believed her character. There was no doubt in my mind that whatever the wind was doing drove her to a brutal suicide. I didn't believe anyone else felt like they were experiencing "the happening", I felt like they the other two stars were on some kind of adventure they didn't understand so they just looked confused. I enjoy watching Mark Wahlberg films-- he has a film persona that works in most films he's been in (FEAR, THE FIGHTER, etc.); unfortunately, he could not go toe to toe with Buckley's acting (bedroom scene with doll on the bed). After the first 10 minutes, THE VISIT's ending was obvious. That wasn't a hit or a miss, I was disappointed though, felt like it was for teens. After seeing SPLIT several times, I'm SO glad Shyamalan is back on top of his game! There's no comparing THE HAPPENING to SPLIT. One is an interesting story that didn't work on film, the other a masterpiece!
Mike Peterson (Mic Pete)
Could have been very good or grand with a story that was tighter and gave much more information what "nature" was and how it was doing it. Too vague. SyFys need to fill in story so not many gaps. Good try by MW with what he had to work with. Mic Cl;-)~ Ririe, Idaho
