About this movie

Molly Hartley (Haley Bennett) hopes that with her mother locked away in a mental ward, she can forget the violence of her family's past and start over. She has found a new life, a new school and a new boyfriend (Chace Crawford). But when her secret past and haunting nightmares continue, Molly fears she has inherited her mother's psychosis. What she doesn't know is that she's inherited something else...a secret far more horrifying than any fate she can imagine and a destiny she cannot avoid!

Well, that was a mistake. I had come to GPlay Movies to watch The Skeleton Key. Somehow I looked at this and stupidly believed the first few positive reviews. I missed the awful and accurate Rotten Tomatoes score. If I was a very sheltered 11 year old, this *might* have been watchable. I like the actor Jake Webber, but if you do, too- I recommend you skip this no sense and watch Dawn of the Dead. I can't even tell you the premise of this movie, except a loose similarity to Rosemary's Baby, maybe? I thought it might be an intelligent take on an actual "haunting" or possession or some form of the occult but it was like a bad tv after school special. Just...ugh. Stay away. I hardly ever leave negative ratings on anything so you have been warned.

Out of the haunting, possession, etc, genre? This movie brings something new, not done before, and different to the table, in terms of the ending. That's why it's my all time favorite out of this particular genre, and why I love it so much! Normally, movies like this all end the same way. "Bad", or "evil" is vanquished or defeated, one way or another. This movie explored a completely different option, which I enjoyed very much. That twist, that strays from the typical ending you'd expect. Love it!
