About this movie

Sean Connery, the man who established the "007" franchise, stars in this tense drama about a group of North African prisoners who rebel against their British captors during WWII. Oscar-winner Connery ("James Bond" features, "The Untouchables," "The Rock") is joined by a superb cast, including Michael Redgrave ("The Lady Vanishes"), Oscar-nominee Ian Bannen ("Hope and Glory," "The Flight of the Phoenix"), and Ossie Davis ("Do the Right Thing," "Malcolm X," TV's "The Stand"). Directed by Academy Award-nominee Sidney Lumet ("Network," "Dog Day Afternoon," "Serpico").

This a very powerful film from the opening flying sequence of the enormous sand Hill to the damaged & overbearing characters in the film. The sheer scale of the hill is enough to induce a heart attack & you do feel sorry for the actors having to climb it. It is truly worth watching for an insight into what happened to the deserters & criminals withing the Army. Grim but a must watch.

The Hill is one of my favourite films. Excellent British cast playing strong roles of equally strong characters. One of Sidney Lumet's best films. Powerful gritty and moving drama set in a WWII military prison in North Africa, exposing the brutality and Victorian rules and attitudes still prevalent in the military penal system during the 1940s. A real man's film!
