This Extended adventure follows Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim Erebor with the help of Gandalf the Grey and 13 Dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins, Orcs and deadly Wargs, as well as a mysterious and sinister figure known only as the Necromancer.
Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain, first they must escape the Goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever...Gollum.
Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of ingenuity and courage, he also gains possession of Gollum's "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities...A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

I already picked this up on Blu-ray (came with a Ultraviolet digital copy). I'm glad to see Google Play carrying the extended version. If they begin selling the extended versions for the "original" Lord of the Rings trilogy I'll probably go for that version instead of the Blu-ray version. The HD pricing isn't terrible. I paid $19.99 at Walmart for my 2D Blu-ray copy with UV digital copy. Maybe $14.99 on here for a digital only copy (with no printing or logistics costs) would be a bit more fair, but $19.99 is pretty much in line with most other releases in HD from Google Play.

I love these movies! They are quite entertaining and honestly a lighter, more fun watch than the Lord of the Rings. That being said, there is a fair amount of content added to the movie that was not in the Hobbit book. I am an avid Tolkein fan and I have read the LOTR, Hobbit, Silmarillion, and most of the Unfinished Tales. Having read all of these books, I will defend these movies by saying that most of the added content was from other books (Unfinished Tales) and was put into the movie to highlight the importance of the story as it related to the LOTR and the grander scheme of the history of Middle-Earth. Sure, some movie nonsense was added to make it more interesting (like the love story between Tauriel and Kili), but I personally can look over it. It's not much different than Glorfindel being replaced by Arwen as Frodo's rescuer from the Ringwraiths in Fellowship of the Rings. Overall, I love the movies, find them entertaining, and appreciate the added history from the Unfinished Tales.

Great book was taken and made into something much different. If you've read the book its almost lol hilarious how much peter changed the book for these movies. Its like hes trying to connect this somehow to lotr, although the hobbit is an entirely different tale. Recommend for someone who hasnt read the book Dont recommend if youre looking for a true hobbit tale of adventure; just read the book if you are.
