Based on the best-selling books by Suzanne Collins, THE HUNGER GAMES is the first film in the franchise. It would seem this film gets upvoted by the stereotypical 13 year old Twilight girl because the story is terribly generic, the characters flat (nobody actually gives a crap about murdering each other) and the acting average at best. Cliche after cliche ruins the film, it's only redeeming features are the good props, sound effects, locations and costumes but a good film peripherals do NOT make.

Well made and excellently acted for an older audience but it ought to have a much higher rating. I could not believe it was only 12 when I looked after watching it. Most of the young children who are emotionally part of the story are violently and graphically killed. It would be extremely upsetting for many people - indeed more so than any violent 18 rated film I have seen. Be aware it is part of a series so also lacks a "happy" ending. .

Hugely disappointing. The running man, battle royale and the lord of the flies were much better films. Not hard to see where the plot was stolen from. Very shallow characters with a dull meandering plot made for a poor viewing. Lack of background knowledge of why the districts were impoverished, with only a brief mention of an uprising and a war didn't help to draw the viewer in. Sadly a waste of such talent as Harrelson and Sutherland with such superficial roles. Great book was, poor adaptation. -*
