Directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man), based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film, The Jungle Book is a live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he’s no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat. Urged to abandon the only home he’s ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by panther-turned-stern-mentor Bagheera (voice of Ben Kingsley) and the free-spirited bear Baloo (voice of Bill Murray). Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa (voice of Scarlett Johansson), a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie (voice of Christopher Walken), who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire.

For those who think the CGI was the animals and sone trees: the only real thing you saw in there was the actor playing Mowgli so yeah. Basically every small leaf is designed on computers so... Basically it was an animated film with the look of a live action one and people still don't get that. Give them a little credit at least for all that work although it wasn't done by Disney anyway lol. It was weta and MPC.

Visually stunning, it beautifully captures the natural beauty of the Jungle. Even the obviously unnatural behaviour of the animals somehow seems natural, so much attention has been given to modelling the animation on the way the animals naturally move. BUT the genius of the visuals is made to serve a dire script. It fails to capture any hint of the atmosphere of the original. The beautiful descriptions that are so evocative of India, written by a man who so obviously loved the country aren't captured - apart from the scenery, one would hardly know it was India. Given the visual palette available to the filmmakers , this is a sad omission. The plot, dialogue and characters are 100% American Disney and 0% British Indian. The film completely leaves out Mowgli's time living in the 'Man village', so the contrast between the 'Law of the Jungle' and the 'Law of Man' is lost, and we never see Mowgli not fitting in there anymore than he does in the jungle - so the whole point of the plot is missing. In its place is a crass modern morality tale about being yourself and uniting everyone which fails entirely to capture the reality of being raised as an ex-pat, not fitting in anywhere.
