While imprisoned at the POW camp he meets Margaret and her father Jack, the manager of the local football team. Impressed by Bert's exceptional talent as a goal-keeper, Jack recruits Bert to play for the local team. Despite hostility on and off the field, a love slowly blossoms between Margaret and Bert. To the outrage of Man City fans, many of whom are Jewish, Bert is signed by the club as their new star keeper. Bert’s difficult path to acceptance takes an incredible turn when he wins over thousands of supporters by taking the club to victory in the 1956 FA Cup Final and playing on despite breaking his neck. The Keeper is an extraordinary love story between a young English woman and a German PoW, who together overcome prejudice, outrage and tragedy.

Exceptional film. Complex story, beautifully crafted script, note-perfect performances from all. Rendered the war time period with rare authenticity avoiding caricatures and visual cliches.

I thought this was a great story of struggle and the human spirit .That life is never one whole lollipop path but full of good and bad ,but there are people along the way that will give you a chance . Acting was very good and characters help fill the weave of the story well.

Well worth watching. I seem to have become much more selective about spending two hours of my life watching a movie. I am glad that I watched The Keeper. Quality movie.
