When Cyril's father (Jérémie Renier) abandons him, he obsessively searches for his bicycle - placing his last bit of hope in this symbol of their relationship. Almost by accident, he becomes the ward of a kind hairdresser (Cécile de France - Clint Eastwood's HEREAFTER), who seems surprised to find herself so determined to help him. With his wild, unpredictable behavior and his disastrous search for father figures, Cyril risks losing her - though she refuses to give up without a fight.

This dramatic film is told primarily from the point of view of Cyril, a tween/young teenager who has been institutionalised due to being voluntarily surrendered by his father who could no longer provide his son with even the basic necessities. Instead of telling Cyril the truth, get dodges it by promising the boy that he would only be staying for a month. Determine for yourself whose feelings are being appeased. After the one month is up, Cyril begins doing everything he can to fight his caretakers and teachers in an attempt to escape to find his father. He finds a lot more than he intended. This film accurately portrays the confusion, frustration, distrust of any adult, and anger which is frequently felt and expressed by an institutionalised child. It also is spot-on in its portrayal of ways the child copes with such negative and overwhelming emotions. If the viewer is unaccustomed to watching film with subtitles, it can be a bit of an adjustment. Personally, I think dubbing an alternate audio track would have detracted from the movie. If you miss things when watching it initially, watch additional times!
