If like me you watched this wide-eyed as a child, then you'll be eager to return to Charles B. Pierce's classicmonster movie. Made on a shoe-string budget, the film's docu-drama style tells the story of the Fouke monster that supposedly haunts the woods of Texarkana. Pierce's fascination with folklore was followed up by The Town That Dreaded Sundown, a film that preceeded John Carpenter's Halloween and inadvertantly changed the horror genre forever. Boggy Creek would go onto to make $20,000,000 and become the most popular film of 1972 despite being made with a modified 16mm camera owned by Pierce utilising locals and crew to star in the movie. It's fun, effective and gleefully low-budget. A must.

Charles Pierce's first film helped create the docudrama sub genre in film, and time capsules many accounts of allegedly true encounters with an unknown creature resembling Bigfoot/sasquatch in the rural south. The film has charming nature scenes mixed with foreboding and shocking terror, and this combination that showcases both the splendor and uncertainty of living on the fringe of society makes for a rare cinematic experience. Bigfoot enthusiasts will love it. Horror film buffs will too.

Saw it when I was a kid in the 70s at the Drive In Movie in Nashville Tennesee, and was horrified and hooked at the same time...
