About this movie

Set in the near future and with the world plunged into another cold war; Britain's Ministry of Defense is on the verge of developing a robotic soldier. This soldier, called The Machine, looks and sounds human, but has the strength, speed, and ruthlessness beyond that of any living person. The project is near completion when a bug in the programming, a side effect of it being too close to human coding, causes the prototype to destroy the lab and everyone in its path in spectacularly violent fashion. Undeterred by this setback, lead scientist Vincent McCarthy enlists the help of an artificial intelligence expert to help him harness the full potential of a truly conscious fighting machine. So boring. Why is there never any humour in serious movies. Nobody even cracks a smile. Not even a wry grin. There is no situation in life so dire that every tiny trace of humour is extinguished. Except in movies that take themselves way too seriously. Like this one.

I was sitting on a plane, very bored, flicking through movies when the box art on this one caught my eye. After watching the trailer, I thought "Alright. A terminator flick wouldn't be that bad". I was dead wrong. This movie goes above and beyond anything the marketing department clearly thought of it. It did mess up a bit at the end though which is why I can't give it 5 stars. A must watch for anyone looking for thought invoking sci-fi.

A cut above the usual 'death robot' genre. Good acting all round, with Caity Lotz as a standout. She's sympathetic and yet graceful and great as an action hero. This film should have done better at the box office and I definitely recommend a watch.
