The Man Who Knew Infinity is the true story of a genius (Dev Patel) whose theories propelled him from obscurity into a world in the midst of war, and how he fought tirelessly to show the world the magic of his mind. Colonial India, 1913. Srinavasa Ramanujan is a shipping clerk and self-taught genius, who failed out of college due to his near-obsessive, solitary study of mathematics. Determined to pursue his passion, Ramanujan writes a letter to G. H. Hardy (Jeremy Irons), a British mathematics professor at Trinity College, Cambridge. Hardy recognizes the originality and brilliance of Ramanujan's talent and despite the skepticism of his colleagues, undertakes bringing him to Cambridge so that his theories can be explored. Ramanujan leaves his family, his community, and his bride, Janaki (Devika Bhise), to travel to England. There, he finds understanding and a deep connection with his sophisticated and eccentric mentor.

I wanted this to work as a film but while the filming is ok, the script and pace is wrong with several short badly timed scenes in the first 30 minutes that is stilted and uneven to watch. I remain unconvinced Dev Patel like Armie Hammer and worst Aston Kutcher is A list actor material who seems to be able to get parts based on once one off good film role but get parts that demand more than their range. Its not a Beautiful Mind alas but offers some fleeting interesting bits. if you can keep attention from the poor production.

Interesting story. Nicely acted by most of cast. True that Dev Patel maybe not the strongest of the group. But enjoyed Jeremy Irons as always.

One of the better films I've seen lately. Very moving.
