ChloÃŦ Grace Moretz âSuspiriaâ stars as a teenage girl forced into a gay conversion therapy center by her conservative guardians. Based on Emily Danforthâs acclaimed and controversial coming-of-age novel.
I don't think I was really in the right mindset to watch this film when I did. I was more in the mood for a comedy and this is far from funny. Overall, the acting was very strong. I personally wish certain characters might have been fleshed out more or certain scenes explained. Not to give too much away, the ending left me hopeful yet curious on what happens next. If you are prepared for a more dramatic LGBT film with heart and unanswered questions, this is certainly a good choice .
You could barely even call this "based on the book." I kept waiting for the nuances and context that made the book so wonderful but the adapters seemed to have just cobbled together a few seems deemed "pivotal" in the book and hoped that was a nice. Highly encourage you read the book but this script was a waste of time.
I think this movie failed to portray the real horrors of gay conversion therapy, parental/religious pressures and coming of age as a gay teen. I wished this film has done justice to this comunity
