There is a lot to love about the Miseducation of Cameron Post, however, there is no comparison with the book. That is the sad part about adapting a great novel to the silver screen, you will never be able to translate as much content or as nuanced plot or details as its written version. The choice to focus on the last third of the novel is wise in that it is the most heart wrenching, most harmful, and dynamic part of the novel. The movie pulls key moments from Cameron’s relationship with Coley in order to inform the events that then transpire in the next scenes. The film does a good job of making you frustrated with Cameron’s situation. It’s not fair that she was sent to this place to ‘fixed’ to be cured of something that cannot be. It’s frustrating when Dr. Marsh forces these ideas on the kids and makes them conform and lie to themselves. And it’s oh so frustrating when Cameron is explaining that they are being emotional and mentally abused, but not listened to. I think these are the moments that make the movie, that pull at you and force you to feel uncomfortable and upset, and these are the moments that are the most important.

It gives people a true understanding of what it's like for people trying to change some other people into something that they are not. Being a lesbian myself I completely understand the struggles of having people trying to control who I am. This shows a depiction of a young girls life who has an aunt who is trying to change her. Turns out in the end she is happy just the way she is.💖🧡💛💚💙💜🏳️‍🌈

I don't think I was really in the right mindset to watch this film when I did. I was more in the mood for a comedy and this is far from funny. Overall, the acting was very strong. I personally wish certain characters might have been fleshed out more or certain scenes explained. Not to give too much away, the ending left me hopeful yet curious on what happens next. If you are prepared for a more dramatic LGBT film with heart and unanswered questions, this is certainly a good choice .
