The Monkey King: Havoc in Heaven's Palace is based on the first seven chapters of the classic Chinese book Journey to The West. Sun Wukong (The Monkey King) is a monkey born from a heavenly crystal who acquires supernatural powers on Earth.

The movie is fantastic, its a faerie tale in alot of ways. Splendid action and a whole lot of heart. Donnie Yen is a golden god, a golden monkey god.Overall the acting is exactly where it needs to be. The costars shine apropriatly and Donnie Yen's Monkey is just amazing. It took my western eyes a second or two to grow accustomed to everything, and at first I was a little worried, but as I watched I found myself grinning from enjoyment. I cannot wait for the sequal to hit the U.S.!

This movie is amazing for its take on Journey to the West/Monkey King story. just wish they kept donny for part 2. and they kept the hard work. all in all, its worth 3.5 stars. but my bias with Donny and how he potrayed Sun, is a masterpiece to me.

I was excited by this title moment i laid eyes on it..being a big fan of the forbidden kingdom and knew I had to watch this adventure of sun wukong! Donnie yen did a great job coming off the ip man series and was a really good choice for monkey,and from first watch I was hooked..not looking forward to the aaron kwok version really, but long live the monkey king sun wukong👍
