The Mummy is an exciting, fun, and fascinating adventure in ancient Egypt, and a dynamic hybrid at that; disturbing horror, rousing adventure, intense action, witty comedy, and romance all wrapped up into one. Stephen Sommers is responsible for the direction and screenplay, and he was on-point with his job creating this intellectual piece of filmmaking; the film has instantaneous suspense, a great sense of timing, and best of all: the writing (the intelligent script-writing and most of the smartly written dialogue). All of this makes this movie brilliant and a lot of fun. The characters are so captivating because they are fleshed-out and they have some interesting backstories. Rick O'Connell (Brendan Fraser) is an energetic and brazen adventurer with the heart of pure gold. Evelyn Carnahan (Rachel Weisz) is a brilliant Egyptologist with excellent knowledge and a sturdy personality. I thought Johnathan Carnahan (John Hannah) is utterly amusing as a comical sidekick, but the problem is that he never liked camels because they are smelly and they spit. There is a logical reason why camels spit: to defend themselves when threatened, but at least he is still a very-well utilized supporting character. Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo) is one ghastly antagonist, and formidable; he has monstrous magical powers used for evil and destructive mayhem, but he also has a weakness: he has a fear of cats, because according to ancient mythical Egypt, cats are the guardians of the Underworld, that's because cats were associated and based on a loose interpretation on a goddess named Bastet, and Bastet is the goddess of protection against contagious diseases and evil spirits, like Imhotep. The film has a splendid cast and they seem to be enjoying themselves when they do their work performing on set which is always great, And each one in the ensemble really knows how to get into character. When you add Brendan Fraser to any film, you will end up having a whole lot of fun, because the whimsical material that he delivers adds so much credibility to the entertainment value. Brendan's performance is highly entertaining, that makes this film a rip-roaring experience. The haunting music score composed by Jerry Goldsmith is a raucous and brazen score that is exactly what you expect an epic horrific adventure in Egypt would sound like, and it has the correct instrumentation to be the perfect fit for the film. I was actually convinced by these solid effects, because the clever script-writing for these effects are executed strongly. In conclusion: The execution of it's genre is genuinely effective, the strong characterizations deliver a lively sense of fun, it all adds up to make "The Mummy" a delightfully dynamic romp. 4.5/5 Highly recommended!

I will not lie. This movie was quite cheesy...but in a good way. There were parts where I found myself frowning, but the acting was perfectly fine, good job Brendan Frasier, and it was humorous at some points. To tell the truth the only reason I didn't give 5 starts was because of the bad special effects. But I can assure you, once you get past that, you will love it.

This wondrous action adventure had no problem keeping my eyes fixed and my attention focused on the screen. I recommend it. I must also report my dismay, that the Dark Universe, and this films rumored sequels, have been delayed or discontinued. Filmed to be the modernization of the old classics like 'She', and 'The Curse of the Mummies Tomb', it fits the genre well, and played a decent homage to its inspiration.
