About this movie

Tom Cruise stars in this spectacular version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy. Thought safely entombed deep beneath the desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day. Her malevolence has grown over millennia and with it come terrors that defy human comprehension. From the sands of the Middle East through modern day London, The Mummy balances wonder, thrills, and imagination.

Universal studios didn't do Mr Cruise any favours on this movie. The film doesn't recognise or play to Cruise's strengths and strangely favours his co-stars, particularly in the early scenes. The visuals are confused and the effects are often lacking. Something went wrong here; the initial aspiration for a cracking film and precursor to great things for the future, fell foul of ... what, funding, risk analysis, 'politics .,.'? Shame. I can only hope Universal paid Tom Cruise handsomely for a film that was bungled.

Sofia Boutella as the Mummy was the star, Tom Cruise just didn't suit the part. Im not sure if they wanted some sort of action-comedy or an horror out of this.. along with the over reliance of CGI and trying to merge it into this "Dark Universe" made sure this film was a gigantic flop.
