Since the death of her parents, 17-year-old Julie Pierce (Swank) has directed her anger at all the wrong places. She's angry at the grandmother who can no longer raise her, at the violent all-male "posse" that harasses her at school, and angry and confused with herself as she struggles to become a woman.
