I saw this at El Capitan, I was super excited to see the film. Although it's production and costumes are absolutely beautiful, the characters seem distant from one another. I feel that the film could have benefited if they would have gone into depth with each character rather than simply introducing them and carrying on. I feel like it had a lot of potential but there was just a lot missing, and I was unfortunately disappointed. It's definitely one of those "watch once if you wanna but you're not missing out on much if you don't" kinda films.

Why Is This Here

The movie wasn't good and it made many leaps in logic to move along a plot that was just bad. There are a lot of scenes that seemed really random and out of place; like the scene with the main character and the sugar plum fairy in the theatre. The theatre scene served to give us some backstory, there's a moment in it there for no reason but to show us the the sugar plum fairy can fly. The characters are really boring and don't have much of a personality. The ones that do don't have a good one.

All style and no substance. For a movie made for and and about family, this film simply has no heart. All the emotional moments fall flat, either because of overacting, or stilted lines. The movie focuses too much time on expansive shots (designed for the 3D release, no doubt) that add nothing to the story or characters. The casual references to the Nutcracker are mangled and rehashed in ways that feel very lifeless compared to the original story of bravery, love, and acceptance. It is every bit as bad as critics said it was. I saw this film in theaters and was sorely disappointed. Neither the "twist" (which is so obvious as to be laughable), nor the resolution wrap up the movie in a way that makes anyone feel anything. Beautiful graphics but blah in every other dimension. You'd be better served just playing the original Nutcracker symphony over the muted movie.
