Timing is everything - and it's never right for clothing store owner Reece McHenry (Sam Shepard) and widowed seamstress Carol Fitzsimmons (Diane Keaton) as circumstances conspire to keep them apart despite a love that spans three decades. Meanwhile, Carol's daughter (Diane Lane) and Reece's son (Robert Patrick) begin an affair of their own that provides a disquieting mirror for their parents in this bittersweet drama.
