Dedee Truitt (Christina Ricci) is the opposite of sweet sixteen. Politically incorrect, outrageous, and bracingly honest, she descends on the Indiana town of her half-brother, Bill (Martin Donovan), like the force of nature she is. Within weeks Dedee seduces his beautiful but befuddled live-in boyfriend Matt (Ivan Sergei), announces Matt's the father of her unborn child, and escapes with him and $10,000 of Bill's money to the not-so-bright lights of Los Angeles. Meanwhile, Matt's other boyfriend (Jonny Galecki) blames Bill for his disappearance, and gets even by pushing for an investigation by the local sheriff (Lyle Lovett) who, incidentally, carries a torch for Bill's best friend Lucia (Lisa Kudrow), a wickedly acid spinster who disapproves of everything Dedee does - and hey, who can blame her? It's a chase, buoyant comedy of manners, a celebration of the unpredictable. But, ultimately, it's the story of six confused, touching, and hilarious people who eventually stumble into what they've wanted all along: loving, committed relationships - what Dedee calls "the opposite of sex."

So cool seeing Christina Ricci looking so beautiful, fine, and sexy the way she was young in the film back then. The Opposite of Sex is the complications of the sexually you are straight, gay, or bisexual in the basic lifestyle you're living or with someone on starting relationship. I'm still figuring out how to come out to my family and friends how I really feel, hoping someday if they'll still accept me for me.

This movie spoke to me on a level only Christina #Ricci can reach with her ability to act. It is a story about Dee Dee and her journey through adolescence and finding adults beside her half-brother and his love story. 'The Opposite of Sex' dissects a myriad of characters to observe human nature from its most basic to complex. Ivan Sergei is the heart of this film as the second partner to Dee's brother Bill, Matt. Matt scurries behind Dee Dee's merry-go-round or pregnancy. Matt longs for a family with a place where he fits and even has someone like Jason tailing him to prove it. #bittersweettalk Bill and his sister-in-law Lucia spoke to me like officers in the court of wedded something-or-other. #winks4smarts Dee Dee really steers the ship the whole time and tries to make it work to her advantage. Maybe its the baby she brandishes over her family. Maybe she also wants a life like Matt wants a family. I loved this movie because you leave asking yourself a lot of the same questions the way most of the characters do too. Excusing the subject matter, this film is meant for any family. Regardless of #lifestyle. Thank you Mr. Roos!

I'm surprised that this film isn't better known. It's funny and twisted, with some great performances.
