A conflicted priest is investigating his defrocked mentor's "suicide" when he encounters an ancient sin eater who offers absolution outside the Church, and who has been manipulating events -- like the priest's romance with a troubled woman who attempted to kill him -- in order to make the priest his successor.

Any film that has one of the actors delivering an embarrassingly predictable quote about "the abyss", is bound to contain numerous other cliches and to be...predictable.

A beautifully filmed occult horror film. I enjoyed this film and purchased it. Slow, gloomy, and gothic in the extreme.

I love this movie so much. It makes me want to watcg it over and over again.
