Good performances undermined by poor screenwriting. Considering the material it had to work with — court intrigue, religious upheaval, tyranny, the place of women in the 16th century — it feels like a lot of potential was wasted. The film oversimplifies Gregory's book to the point where it has nothing to say about anything.

I loved this film seen it more then once :-)
