Everyone involved in this production obviously did their homework. The characters are true to the comics and the animation captures the spirit of the old Mendelson-Melendez cartoons. The music, while more romantic and orchestral than Vince Guaraldi's scores, works well with the film. The cast is marvelous and mostly free of distracting big names. The only thing that isn't true to the comics is that Charlie Brown gets a happy ending. I doubt Sparky would have let them get away with that. But oh well.

This movie is one of my favorite movies ever. I can't believe Charlie Brown actually flew a kite and got to talk to the little red haired girl. Lucy is so mean to Charlie Brown. She always calls him a blockhead, she always pulls the football away from him by saying, "This time I will not take the ball away Charlie Brown. So Charlie Brown comes running up to kick the football and then Lucy just pulled away and Charlie Brown lands flat on his back and kills himself. That is so like Lucy. So mean.

Just like Charlie Brown; this movie stays true to what it is. In fact, I'd argue that it's a better story then what Schulz could have created (with due respect). Don't agree? Just watch those old Charlie Brown movies. To me they can be flat out depressing. Here's this kid who tries and tries but can't seem to catch a break and to top it off his entire neighborhood (and dog) just treat the poor guy like garbage. Don't get me wrong; people love a good loser, but those prior cartoons could be borderline brutal (and probably considered bullying by today's standards). I'm really impressed with how DreamWorks kept the feeling of the series, but made ever so slight tweaks to certain characters and their relationship with Charlie Brown to avoid being so harsh. Bravo! In the end, it may not be the most exciting animated movie made but it makes that up with loads of heart. Now DreamWorks, get Watterson on the phone and figure out how to give us a Calvin & Hobbes movie just as good as this one.
