Pink Panther may be Okay for kids, but, One scene after another and one unfunny gag after another, this mediocre crime comedy does not succeed as a family film, even without Steve Martin. There are 7 moments of "quiet" comedy that are about chuckles, not laughs, not to mention that they are also forgettable. Most of the comedy falls flat (or should I say "pratfalls" flat). The story loses it's focus 3 times throughout it's main plot and mopes about just for the entertainment or even for something plointless and forgettable. The acting performances from the whole cast creates an atmosphere that's calm and laid-back without having low energy, otherwise the whole film would be boring. The score is a great support for the genre of film, as well as a great example of a modern update of a classic, the score even has tender moments at times. There are 3 strong plot twists at the climax as well as the third act that are strong enough Every French accent from Steve Martin's character and many others are badly fake, even the kids would find confusing and stupid. Steve Martin's character is being mildly destructive (sometimes on accident) just for the laughs but that is not the ingredient for comedy. It may be a rental for kids (appropriate for 11 year old children), But for most people it's not recommended.

I have the privilege of not watching the original by Sellers, sure have heard it is great. On that note, I love the Steve Martin Pink Panther and it's one of my favourite comedies. I watch it as a Steve Martin fan and it's good work. The hamburger - accent coach bit is hilarious, the whole equation with Ponton is well crafted. Go with a fresh look and enjoy.
