Empires fall, love survives. When Michael (Oscar Isaac), a brilliant medical student, meets Ana (Charlotte Le Bon), their shared Armenian heritage sparks an attraction that explodes into a romantic rivalry between Michael and Ana’s boyfriend Chris (Christian Bale), a famous American photojournalist dedicated to exposing political truth. As the Ottoman Empire crumbles into war-torn chaos, their conflicting passions must be deferred while they join forces to get their people to safety and survive themselves.

The promise that this cast and this story would make a good film was an empty one. I'm a fan of Bale but this is the flattest performance I've seen him in which should paint the picture of the contrived way it is filmed and acted along with a cliché love triangle which at least lets you know from the start it will be disappointing. I'm glad the tale was told not so glad in how it was told.

I would recommend watching this movie as I had no idea about the genocide the Armenians endured at the hands of the ottoman empire and it's a story that even though might have lacked in depth made up for by some great performances on screen. I think it's important that humanity never forgets such atrocities as they make innocent people stronger in the face of adversity. Beautiful locations were chosen to film the movie and Oscar proves that he's a leading man that is making waves in hollywood.

Eye opening and a very moving story of the power of the human spirit no matter the hardship. Truly a must see.
