About this movie

The Remaining is an action-packed supernatural thriller that addresses questions of life, love and belief against an apocalyptic backdrop. A group of close friends gather for a wedding, but the celebration is shattered by a series of cataclysmic events and enemies foretold by biblical endtimes prophecies. The survivors face a horrifying, uncertain future as they scramble for safety, but as their world collapses around them in chaos and terror will they choose real life through faith, or just try to survive?

When the description said it regarded questions of belief, I didn't realize how churchy it was going to be. If you don't believe in god and you're a sinner, you're going to die painfully in the rapture. That wouldn't be a terrible premise I suppose if there was any sort of character growth or development with an engaging plot. The CGI is mediocre, the acting is terrible, the characters are all the same uninteresting carbon copies of each other (cardboard stand-ins would have been cheaper) and the story is basically a Sunday school guilt trip. There's no payoff at all. Not worth the time. The point - this is a B horror movie AT BEST. If you're Christian and super into this type of thing, it's maybe worth it for $.99 otherwise you're wasting your money.

If you've ever been to church, you've probably already heard this story: (1) Believe in Jesus or (some would argue) you don't get to go to heaven. (2) When the Rapture happens at the end of the world, bad, bad things will happen. It's the story you heard from the pulpit as a kid, and with this movie you get to experience it again through a bad movie script, cheesy special effects and cringeworthy dialogue. If for some reason you must watch a Christian rapture movie, just go ahead and watch Left Behind. Both are bad movies, both are sermons on film, but at least Left Behind has the honesty not to pretend it's a horror movie in an effort to get people to watch it .

It's just hard to get scared on a premise that just holds little to no horror for the watcher. The Rapture is a really boring scare for people. First you have to take the idea of sin for really scary point of view ie having sex out of wedlock. That just doesn't do it for me since ethics are not inline with sin. imagine you said "God Dammit" you've sinned, will those creature will attack you now, you have to be kidding. The creatures in this movie are incredibly kind for the characters to get out their dialog before killing them. it's just a truly boring movie unless for the jump scares.
