Teenaged Fern finds herself orphaned in the middle of a harsh Montreal winter. Determined to avoid repeating her mother's life in 'the system', Fern sets out on a new path. When Youth Protection comes looking, she bolts. Taking over her mother's cleaning jobs, Fern finds the book "50 Ways to Become a Millionaire." The guide claims, 'All you need to do is save,' and Fern decides to do just that, replacing her grief with the quest to become a millionaire.
