Based on the New York Times best-selling novel, The Shack takes us on a father’s uplifting spiritual journey. After suffering a family tragedy, Mack Phillips spirals into a deep depression causing him to question his innermost beliefs. Facing a crisis of faith, he receives a mysterious letter urging him to an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Despite his doubts, Mack journeys to the shack and encounters an enigmatic trio of strangers led by a woman named Papa. Through this meeting, Mack finds important truths that will transform his understanding of his tragedy and change his life forever.

Awful. This is some sort of religious programming video based on the ideas of a pamphlet you get through your letterbox. I should have read the guardian review! This film is disjointed nonsense. Not long ago Sam Worthington was living the life of a blue alien and fighting alongside John Connor against cybernetic organisms. Now he is the lead in an instructional video.

Loved the book and loved the film just as much. It communicates the love of God at the heart level. It's not theology so there's no need to worry about whether it's OK to portray the Father as an Afro-American woman (and later as a man).

Symbolism of a relationship with diety is interesting. If you are easily offended by the mention of God this film may not be for you. One of the better movies that portrays a more accurate view of God. Not perfect so don't go crazy on the idea this is religious propaganda.
