Based on the New York Times best-selling novel, bookstore owner A.J. Fikry's (Kunal Nayyar) life is not turning out as he expected as he struggles after his wife's tragic death, and hits rock bottom when his most prized possession is stolen. But with book sales rep, Amelia (Lucy Hale), coming into his life, as well as an unexpected arrival appearing on his doorstep, Fikry gains a new lease on life which sees his world change in more ways than one.
