The Citizen Kane of 70s horror. What is incredible about this movie is how much effort, work, suffering and devotion the crew put into it, despite that it was funded as just a low budget, independent exploitation film intended for limited release. It wound up transcending all limitations to become one of the world's most famous movies. Loaded with detail, subtlety, loving cinematography and visceral experiences. A lesson in both symbolism and guerilla film making, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a reminder that sometimes the most frightening stories come out of the most ordinary things and situations. Gunner Hansen and Magdalen Burns are excellent in their respective roles.

Why are so many people posting about how this is not a true story. I think in this age of easy access to Google, anyone who really wants to know has already read about Mr Gein. So there's no need to be one of those people who stand at the entrance to a magic show and tell everyone how the trick was done. As for the movie itself. If you are the type of person who really gets into a good horror film then this won't disappoint. It is low budget and has no real special effects, but it will keep you on the edge.
