About this movie

In the 1940's, the US government targeted beloved jazz icon Billie Holiday as part of their war on drugs, to prevent her from performing her heart-wrenching ballad "Strange Fruit," a blatant cry against lynching. Directed by Lee Daniels, written by Suzan-Lori Parks and starring Andra Day.

It’s a slow, sad story and possibly strays a little from the truth, but has great music, costumes and acting. It was very enjoyable.

Packed with great performances- Day is truly remarkable. The film lacks focus sometimes but stays powerful and always engaging.
