Über diesen Film

Jerry (Ryan Reynolds) is an affable loner whose hangs out at his flat above a disused bowling alley chatting to his pet cat, Mr. Whiskers, and loyal dog Bosco – whose voices he hears. Eager to socialise, Jerry asks Fiona from accounts. (Gemma Arterton) out on a date, but when she stands him up he later accidentally stabs her to death, repeatedly, in the woods. Hastily covering his tracks, under the strict advice his subversive cat Mr. Whiskers, Jerry is now beyond the reach of his well-meaning psychiatrist Dr. Warren (Jacki Weaver) and things are looking bad for Lisa (Anna Kendrick) who has taken a shine to him. Despite Bosco trying to keep him on the straight and narrow, Mr. Whiskers is the loudest voice in Jerry's head and all he can hope for is salvation. 2015 Arrow Films

A Horror movie about a serial killer who has Schizophrenia, kills lots of women and tries to be funny by talking to a cat and dog. At the end he goes to heaven and you get a few minutes of a badly produced music video. It tries to be funny and a re-enactment of Scream. Stupid, unwitty and the only thing that keeps this movie from dropping below the pass rating is the fact it has a plot line and Ryan Reynolds trying to be a weirdo when really he could be making better films.

It's marketed as a tongue in cheek black comedy about a man urged to do things against his will by his pets, but in reality it's a chilling and brutal commentary on mental health and the constant failure of the state to recognise and help the people that need it. It's much gorier and more psychologically distressing than it's made out to be in the trailer. There are a couple of funny moments, but mostly it's very abstract humour. The concept is fresh, but was stuck between two approaches.

I watched it and I enjoyed it, as far as you can enjoy watching a lonely person deal with mental health issues. There were funny scenes in it and I chuckled but I only thought of them as actually funny after it was over. I'd like to watch it again, see what I missed the first time around and appreciate the dark humour a little more, but it's not what I'm used to seeing from Ryan and Anna Kendrick. Ryan does a hell of a job though, has a bit more depth then I think most people give him credit for (haven't seen Buried yet, it's on the list). And the end credits are good, nice and light after the film being so heavy.
