In the directorial debut of Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winner Alan Rickman ("Love Actually," "Die Hard") the recently widowed Frances (played by Academy Award-winner Emma Thompson - "Sense and Sensibility," "Love Actually")still grieving over her husband's death, deals with a visit from her overbearing mother(played by her real life mother, Phyllida Law - "The Time Machine," "Much Ado About Nothing") seeking to console her. Meanwhile, her teenage son begins a tentative romance with a local girl, two old buddies attend the husband's funeral, and a couple of truant teenagers stir things up.
