Inspired by the work of Aleister Crowley, bohemian artist Rosaleen Norton advocated a pantheist vision of witchcraft, and a sexual magic freed from religious and moral rules. Eventually the relentless scandals led to the downfall of her high society lover. Told 'in her own words', the film weaves stylized drama and erotic dancers with never before seen artworks, diaries and scrapbooks. The Witch of Kings Cross is the fascinating portrait of a fearless woman outlaw railing against fearful conservative forces and an insight into the work of an uncelebrated genius. In today's new wave of feminism, Rosaleen's story has never been more pertinent.

Nice short tribute to a post WWII iconoclast probably less known because of gender than content. Earlier artists from Rimbaud to Artaud to Norton's contemporary, Lenny Bruce, challenged their respective milieu. Ultimately, her imagery of the occult was rather traditional. Dion Fortune, Annie Besant and Madam Blavatsky were and remain esoteric. As a result, their work is more challenging to the status quo. Anything that empowers people to live their truth is a good thing. Could have used less of Ms. Sheridan's choreography; nothing new or interesting there. Nor with the music. Interesting subject; pedantic treatment. Worth a watch but uninspired.

An absolutely brilliant and beautiful film about a woman that isn't very well known in occult circles today. If Aleister Crowley was the avatar of the Great Beast 666, Rosaleen Norton was the quintessential avatar of Babalon. 10/10
