Bernard Coudray (Gérard Depardieu) lives with his wife and young son in a remote country house near to Grenoble. One day, a married couple, Philippe and Mathilde Bauchard (Fanny Ardant), move into the house next door. Mathilde and Bernard were lovers, many years before, and both are equally surprised at the unexpected reunion. Initially, Bernard avoids Mathilde, but a chance meeting in a supermarket reawakens a long-buried passion and they are soon having an affair. Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 October 2020 A thoroughly enjoyable, typically French film focussing on characters and realistic scenarios rather than convoluted plotlines. A couple are reunited unexpectedly, having been lovers 8 years previously. Inevitably, their feelings for one another are rekindled and chaos ensues. The performances are strong and believable, displaying the frailty of human emotions and conflicting interests. They battle to do the right thing whilst irresistibly drawn to each other. The lead actress is unfathomably attractive and alluring at times, which adds to the absorption in their sordid tale. If you like Gerard Depardieu you'll enjoy this!
