Employing state-of-the-art technology to transform audio and moving image archive footage more than a century old, Peter Jackson brings to life the people who can best tell the story of World War I: the men who were there. Driven by a personal interest in the conflict, Jackson sets out to explore the day-to-day experience of its combatants.

An amazing glimpse into a moment in time that continues to shape our world. This project literally give voice those grainy photos and oddly animated film clips. As attention spans shorten to 140 character statements and 15 second videos we need to find new ways to share old lessons lest we repeat the sins of our past. My friend, you would not tell with such high zest To children ardent for some desperate glory, The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est Pro patria mori.

As many of the other reviewers have said, the color and movement of the film makes this feel like you are watching a recent reenactment. The stories and anecdotes told throughout are so personal and range from amusing, captivating, to heartbreaking and downright upsetting. Would love to see more historic documentaries structured as well as this one. This is absolutely worth your time, and is a welcome change from the sometimes dry text booky way that WW1 docs can be produced. Additionally, this is an excellent follow-up watch after listening to Dan Carlin's 6 part WW1 audio series "Blueprint for Armageddon" from Hardcore History.

Absolutely brilliant, shows you the try picture of the first world war. I do warn if you don't like death/gore, be weary, it has film brought back to life, and in them shows the horrors, and the death of the first world war. A brilliant piece showing what our fathers had to endure, I recommend showing your children it (Not too young though), in order to show them the true side of war, and what their (great/ great great) grandfather had to endure, I know it did this too me, being brought up seeing the fun and games around war, this shows the true side. WARNING Their is real death/gore as it should be expected, it shows the proper side of the first world war, many people don't expect it though. This film shows the real side of the first world war, and what our fathers had too endure, so don't be surprised when you see images of death.
